MedSpan was a private Connecticut-based provider-sponsored health maintenance organization participating in both the commercial and Medicare Risk sectors. The company was sold to Oxford Health Plans on March 13, 2002. ( Nasdaq: OHP )
With the completion of this acquisition, MedSpan enabled Oxford to expand its network to include more than 7,400 providers affiliated with the 32 Connecticut hospitals that service MedSpan's approximately 51,000 fully insured commercial members and 22,000 ASO, or self-funded, members. Oxford sought to acquire MedSpan for the statewide presence that is appealing to corporate purchasers. Before being acquired, MedSpan had full-year commercial revenues of $128.1 million in 2001 and $106.8 million in 2000. |
